 Activities:
The Mellette Memorial Association is a private nonprofit organization which operates the 1885 Mellette House, home of Arthur Mellette, South Dakota’s first governor. The house has been restored and is filled with original Mellette furniture, portraits, and heirlooms.

 • Annual event “If Headstones Could Talk,” in June. Guided tour of Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown:

– Visit the graves of some of Watertown’s earliest residents
 – Hear about people, their lives, and their experiences in early Watertown


The Mellette House is open for guided tours from May 1 to October 1, Tuesday though Sunday (closed on Mondays) from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. No admission fee, but donations are appreciated. Reservations are recommended for groups.
