The link above, to the South Dakota Digital Archives, is a digital audio recording taken off two transcription radio discs from June 7, 1941, of the christening and launching of the U.S.S. South Dakota (BB-57) at the New York Shipbuilding Corporation navy yard at Camden, New Jersey. South Dakota First Lady, Vera Bushfield christened the ship. Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox made remarks after the launching. The Washington High School Band of Sioux Falls, South Dakota played at the event.
