The Archaeological Research Center is in Rapid City.
• The regular public hours of the Museum in the Cultural Heritage Center are Monday-through-Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sundays and holidays from 1 to 4:30 p.m. From Memorial Day-through-Labor Day, the hours are Monday-through-Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays and holidays. Admission is free for members of the society and children 17-and-younger; there is a $4 fee for those ages 18-and-older. Discounts are available for tour groups. The State Archives are open weekdays and the first Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The center is closed New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
• The society offers a variety of educational opportunities, including tours of the museum and archives, publications and curriculum guides, and hands-on classes, suitcase and traveling exhibits, and archaeological activities.
• Annual events include a reception each January for state legislators, an annual conference each spring, and an open house the day after Thanksgiving to kick off the holiday season.
• The society is increasing its outreach efforts to local history groups, encouraging them to contact society staff if they have technical questions. "Hoofprints," a bimonthly newsletter, links local history groups with the state society and each other. "Hoofprints" is a benefit of Group membership in the society.
