American Indian Resources: Map Collections (.pdf)

The State Archives map collection contains several thousand items dating from territorial days to the present pertaining to South Dakota and surrounding states. Included are maps of early exploration, fire insurance maps, original survey plats, and state highway maps. The following brief list of Indian related maps was compiled in 1991, therefore, researchers should check current listings of the map database for a detailed description of the map collection
