Iapi Oaye - Vital Statistics Listing


The Iapi oaye, established in May 1871, was published by the Dakota Mission in Greenwood, South Dakota. Published in Yankton and Santee dialects, the four-page, two-column monthly continued to be published for nearly seventy years, releasing its final issue in March 1939.

Many issues of the Iapi oaye contain vital statistics information about tribal members, such as births, deaths, marriages, and baptisms. Etta Perkins translated these instances and created an issue-by-issue listing. PDF versions of the documents she created are available below.
