National Preservation Organizations

Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) is an independent federal agency that promotes the preservation, enhancement, and productive use of our nation's historic resources, and advises the President and Congress on national historic preservation policy.

National Alliance of Preservation Commissions (NAPC) The NAPC is the only organization devoted solely to representing the nation's preservation design review commissions. NAPC provides technical support and manages an information network to help local commissions accomplish their preservation objectives. The Alliance also serves as an advocate at federal, state and local levels of government to promote policies and programs that support preservation commission efforts.

National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers (NCSHPO) The National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers is the professional association of the State government officials who carry out the national historic preservation program as delegates of the Secretary of the Interior pursuant to the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended (NHPA) (16 USC 470).

National Council for Preservation Education (NCPE) The National Council for Preservation Education has over fifty member institutions located across the United States with academic programs in historic preservation and allied fields. The NCPE Guide to Academic Programs in Historic Preservation and Allied Fields is provided as a reference source to assist prospective students in identifying various historic preservation education degree programs in the United States.

National Park Service (NPS) Cultural Resources National Park Service archeologists, architects, curators, historians, and other cultural resource professionals work to preserve, protect, and share the history of this land and its people. The NPS is part of a national preservation partnership working with American Indian Tribes, states, local governments, nonprofit organizations, historic property owners, and others who believe in the importance of our shared heritage – and its preservation.

National Preservation Institute (NPI) The National Preservation Institute is a nonprofit organization offering specialized information, continuing education, and professional training to those involved in the management, preservation, and stewardship of our cultural heritage. NPI offers seminars in historic preservation and cultural resource management.

National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP) The National Trust for Historic Preservation is a private, nonprofit membership organization dedicated to saving historic places and revitalizing America's communities. It provides leadership, education, advocacy, and resources to save America's diverse historic places and revitalize our communities.

National Trust for Historic Preservation, Mountains/Plains Regional Office The Mountains/Plains Office of the NTHP is located in Denver. Staff work closely with partners in eight states to provide a wide range of preservation services including field visits, technical information, strategic planning, guidance on best practices, financial assistance and advocacy on local, state and national preservation issues.

Preservation Action Preservation Action is a nonprofit organization created to serve as the national grassroots lobby for historic preservation. Preservation Action seeks to make historic preservation a national priority by advocating to all branches of the federal government for sound preservation policy and programs through a grassroots constituency empowered with information and training and through direct contact with elected representatives.
