This map is for use as a reference only to help direct queries to the relevant State Historic Preservation Office staff members and for them to manage internal task assignments. The locations and borders of all the Native American tribes are a result of consultation with the South Dakota Department of Tribal Relations after reviewing the relevant maps of multiple federal and state agencies. Garry is the State Historic Preservation Officer and director of the Historic Preservation Department (SHPO). Liaison to the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission and the Tribal Historic Preservation Offices (THPOs).

Katie coordinates review and compliance under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966 (federal law) and SDCL 1-19A-11.1 (state law) and manages archaeological matters. The initial point of contact for all review and compliance, and works with agencies including: BHNF, BIA, BLM, BOR, CGNF, DPG, EDA, FEMA, FERC, NNFG, NPS, PUC, USACE, USFWS, WAPA, and VA.

Duncan is the architectural reviewer for federal (Section 106) and state (SD 1-19A-11.1) review and compliance projects. For the West-Central Region (see map above) Duncan works with State and National Registers of Historic Places, Deadwood Fund Grant assistance, historical markers, and other historic preservation matters in the region. The reviewer and point of contact for the Federal Tax Incentive program and the State Property Tax Moratorium.

This position coordinates public outreach, co-coordinates the Certified Local Government program, updates the preservation website, prepares press releases, helps coordinate annual Archaeology & Historic Preservation Month (including Student Essay Contest and Archaeology Camp), and assists the SHPO in end of year reporting for the Historic Preservation Fund.  Assists with National Register and Survey programs.
 
Seasonal Intern - 605-773-2188
This position assists with public outreach events, shadows staff on field visits, contributes to upcoming National Register nominations and/or Survey efforts, spends days with other SDSHS program offices to learn more about the work of history, and does other work as assigned.
